A new £1m scheme to resurface Southampton’s pavements is being launched this spring. The extra money will mean nearly 40 miles of additional pavements repaired next year.

Matthew Claisse (Portswood Conservative Candidate) says “Some of the pavements in Portswood desperately need resurfacing. Westwood Road for example was resurfaced last year and the improved surface has made life a lot easier for some of the elderly residents living there. This year we shall also be resurfacing Winn Road to bring it up to an acceptable standard.”

Conservatives on the City Council are working hard to improve the state of the roads and pavements in Highfield.
Work is now underway to improve the surface of the footways in Westwood Road, following a number of complaints by local residents. The footways on both sides of the road are being patched up and then resurfaced with slurry treatment which will seal and protect the pavement and provide a more even surface.
“The Conservatives on the City Council have doubled investment in the roads in order to tackle the dreadful state of our roads and pavements. We are working ensure that Highfield gets its fair share of this extra investment.”

Highways improvments to Brookvale Road

After correspondence from local residents concerned with the every growing problen of pot-holes along Brookvale Road between Portswood Highstreet and Westwood Road, Portswood Conservatives have reported this to the Highways team and improvements to the road surface has taken place. This includes the filling in of pot-holes and re-lining of worn out street lines.
Southampton faces a backlog of £500 million in road and pavement repairs. Since elected we have more than doubled the repair budget and have undertaken some key road works. This is despite a crippling recession and Labour government underfunding.

This year under the Conservatives, the council will spend more than 18 million on roads and pavement works – the highest amount ever committed by the council in one financial year. We have allocated an extra £300,000 to tackle 4,000 potholes in the city.

After a lot of correspondence from local resident’s residing along Upper Grosvernor Road, concerning a number of pot hole problems the Portswood action team were called into action. Due to this correspondence I am pleased to announce that a number of road enhancements have been undertaken along Upper Governor Road outside the Portswood Primary School playground. The was a danger to both cyclists and car users, with the pot holes filled in this should no longer be a problem.
Obviously, there are a number of road enhancements that are still needed to be done in the local area, if you have any suggestions please contact us here.
