No to AV Campaign makes sense

vincenzo.jpg Thursday, 21 April 11 - 05:33 PM (GMT)

Under AV the votes for least popular parties can be counted 2 or 3 times.
Can you imagine if the BNP voters had their second preference votes counted over yours.  It's not fair and we don't need it.
VOTE NO to keep the current system.

Cameron urges Government to deal with its debt

vincenzo.jpg Wednesday, 06 January 10 - 07:16 PM (GMT)
By Vincenzo Capozzoli in Elections
At Prime Minister's Questions, Cameron highlighted growing concern about the Government's debt.

This year the Government will have to borrow £178 billion.

Cameron criticsed Gordon Brown for the Government's handling of the public finances.

He said the following individuals and organisations had all questioned it:

  • One of the largest holders of government debt has warned that British debt is likely to be downgraded.
  • The CBI say the Government’s plans are "too little too late"
  • The Governor of the Bank of England says "there is not a credible plan"
  • The OECD says "more ambitious” plans "would strengthen the recovery"
  • And Howard Davies, the man the Prime Minister appointed as the head of the FSA, has said that "the loss of confidence in the government’s ability to get the public finances back under control" is "the major risk"

"Isn't the reason for the lack of faith in the Government's plans that the Prime Minister is so completely unable to admit what everyone knows to be true – that there is a need for cuts to be made?", Cameron asked.

He also pointed out that if the Prime Minister can't convince his own Chancellor and Business Secretary of his leadership on public finances, then it is no surprise that he can't convince the country.

Britain urgently needs new economic leadership

vincenzo.jpg Tuesday, 27 October 09 - 10:57 AM (GMT)
By Vincenzo Capozzoli in Elections

George Osborne has described news that Britain’s economy has now contracted for six consecutive quarters as “deeply disappointing”.

The Shadow Chancellor said that, with the country suffering its deepest and longest recession in modern history, there can now be no confidence in Gordon Brown’s economic policies.

He explained that the Prime Minister’s recession plan has clearly not worked, with our economy still shrinking a full six months after France and Germany’s started growing.

George said that Britain “urgently needs new economic leadership”, and he added:

“We need a Conservative Government to Get Britain Working again."

David Cameron outlines his vision for Britain

vincenzo.jpg Thursday, 08 October 09 - 06:00 PM (GMT)
By Vincenzo Capozzoli in Elections

David Cameron has delivered his keynote speech to the Conservative Party conference in Manchester - the last conference before the next election.

Speaking to thousands of party members, he said a Conservative Government would "reward those who take responsibility, and care for those who can't".

The wide-ranging speech covered the key areas of policy that a Conservative Government would address, and why he wanted to lead it. Cameron concluded with his vision for what Britain could be like:

“I see a country where more children grow up with security and love because family life comes first. I see a country where you choose the most important things in life - the school your child goes to and the healthcare you get. I see a country where communities govern themselves - organising local services, independent of Whitehall, a great handing back of power to people.

I see a country with entrepreneurs everywhere, bringing their ideas to life - and life to our great towns and cities. I see a country where it’s not just about the quantity of money, but the quality of life - where we lead the world in saving our planet. I see a country where you’re not so afraid to walk home alone, where you’re safe in the knowledge that right and wrong is restored to law and order. I see a country where the poorest children go to the best schools not the worst, where birth is never a barrier."

He added that "we will not make it if we pull in different directions, follow our own interests, take care of only ourselves. But if we pull together, come together, work together - we will get through this together."

You can read the speech in full here.

Last month I was asked to provide some information about myself and why I wanted to become a councillor for a new "why become a councillor website".

There are roughly 20,000 elected councillors in England. Each representing their local community, all with their own reason for doing so. You can click here to read why I wanted to stand to become a councillor.
